Post Herpetic Neuralgia (Shingles Pain)

What is Brachial Plexus Neuropathy?

Shingles is a viral infection that causes a painful rash almost anywhere on your body. Most commonly, it appears as a single stripe of blisters that wraps around either the left or the right side of your torso. Caused by the varicella-zoster virus (the same virus that causes chickenpox), shingles is a reactivation of the virus years after its first appearance. After you’ve had chickenpox, the virus lies dormant in nerve tissue near your spinal cord and brain. Most commonly, some kind of prolonged or intense stress, or a depressed immune system opens the door for the virus to rear its ugly head.

PHN DermatomesPHN commonly affects nerve roots C5-T12 as shown on the dermatome chart above.
